Emergency Services
Emergency service provides the basics for people in need: showers, meals, and referrals for families, women and children; and overnight accommodations for homeless men. Men staying at the TIMES Center have access to one-site services including testing for contagious diseases and a Monday night clinic staffed by public health nurses; GED classes, Personal Finance classes, health and hygiene classes taught by student nurses from Lakeview and Parkland, and mental health and substance abuse assessment and referral. Shelter guests are furnished with a sleeping mat, linens and blankets, towels, and hygiene supplies. A laundry is also available for their use. Ideally, men who enter the Emergency Services program will follow the procedures required and transfer to the Transitional Initiatives Program or find independent living accommodations in the community.
Transitional Initiatives
Emergency services are a starting point, but real and lasting change usually requires something more. In addition to the basic food and shelter services, men who commit to participating in the transitional housing program are offered semi-private rooms, savings help, job seeking assistance, benefit counseling, case management and other practical tools and one-on-one assistance that can assist them to get on their feet and into permanent housing.
